Scallop Shell Painting

I’ve taken inspiration from antique scientific shell illustrations for this piece. I wanted to create a vintage style painting as if it had been aged under the sea! The frame has been repurposed, painted with gently distressed Small Blue and backed with scrap printed paper. Measuring approx 22cm x 17cm, including the frame. Signed on the back.

 

Reverse painting on glass is an art form consisting of applying paint to a piece of glass and then viewing the image by turning the glass over and looking through the glass at the image. I've added my own twist by applying mixed media, such as paper and gold leaf. This makes it a challenge but rewarding way to create original pieces.
