Staffordshire Jug Painting
I have the cutest little Staffordshire jug, featuring a detailed imaged by Clarence Cliff that I just had to paint! I’ve recreated it in the classic blue and white design, holding cheery bright flowers, bordered with a golden scallop pattern. The frame has been repurposed, painted with gently distressed Oriental Red and backed with scrap William Morris wallpaper. Measuring approx 22.5cm x 17cm, including the frame. Signed on the back.
Reverse painting on glass is an art form consisting of applying paint to a piece of glass and then viewing the image by turning the glass over and looking through the glass at the image. I've added my own twist by applying mixed media, such as paper and gold leaf. This makes it a challenge but rewarding way to create original pieces.
